Good Reads

November 30, 2007

I used to be a reader - big time. My family says that I used to have a book with me everywhere I went and it was true. I could devour books like none other and reading was one of my favorite passtimes. Then high school hit and required reading kind of put a damper on things. Occassionally I will find a book that really keeps my attention, but I read a lot less than I want to.

Today my friend Mandy invited me to join GoodReads, a website that reminds me of Facebook, only all about books. It’s a really neat site and I like the concept of seeing other’s thoughts about books. Also, it’s nice to see the books you have read all organized (makes me feel like I’ve read more!).

Anyways, if you all decide to join, be sure to friend me! (http://www.goodreads.com/profile/aforementionedthoughts

Some friends and I had another Christmas Craftin’ Night tonight. It’s so hard to believe we’re almost in December already! I still have so much crafting to go…

Wordpress Plugin Review - Comment Email Responder

One of my favorite things about using Wordpress as my blogging tool (besides that is free) is that anyone can make a plugin to make service work in just the way you need. I use many different plugins on this site, but today I want to write about one that I’ve been looking for, for months now.

I’m an avid believer in comments as part of the blogging world. I love to get ‘em and leave ‘em. One of the things I don’t love about blogging vs. using a site such as LiveJournal or Vox is that most of the time people don’t get any of the responses I might right back to their comment. I know most of the time I don’t check back to see if anyone has written back when I comment on a blog. The Comment Email Responder fixes that here on this site.

Now, when you leave a comment and I respond to it, you should get an email letting you know what I responded. I wish all websites had this feature, since I think it really opens things up for dialogue.

Anyways, I’ve tested this plugin on a comment I wrote and it worked great for me. If you run Wordpress on your site, maybe this plugin is what you’re looking for as well?

* I have no affilation with the person who created this plugin or his site. I’m just very excited to have this plugin that I’ve been wanting for so long.

Just Make Money Online Contest

November 26, 2007
One new (to me) site that I’ve been reading more and more of lately is Just Make Money Online. It has a lot of tips of ways to add money making avenues to your website. I’m always interested in these types of tips since running a website isn’t free and, let’s face it, it’s always nice to have an extra bit of spending money now and then.
Recently Shai posted about a contest that she is holding on Just Make Money Online. To enter the contest, contestants have to write about what they would do if they had $25. This got me to thinking.. what would I do if I had $25 to use on my website? I, thankfully, already have hosting. I’m not interested in doing the Google advertising sales for the site right now. What have I wanted to do that I’m putting off until I have extra $$ to invest? Then it dawned on me. Something that I’ve been wanting for quite awhile now. Business cards. I’ve been wanting to create business cards for the site/brand for awhile now. Something to share with friends/family when I’m talking about my work on my site. Something tangible that they can take home to remember to visit my site.
Why haven’t I worked on business cards yet? Well, it takes money. And I’m looking for something creative, so I’m still brainstorming and looking for places to print up these cards. I think the $25 I could potentially win would be a great start to having Aforementioned Thoughts business cards. Maybe cute little mini Moo cards. Maybe something even more creative. But fun nonetheless.
Disclaimer: This post is part of a contest at JustMakeMoneyOnline. If this post wins the contest I will be rewarded with a prize. However, the thoughts conveyed in this post are purely my own.

Enchanted

1.jpg

Sam and I went to see Enchanted on Saturday evening and I was plesantly surprised at how much I liked it. I expected to like it okay, like pretty much every Disney movie, but it was a very cute, charming movie. Sam liked and it as well and apparently we weren’t the only ones.

I’m sure you know the plot behind the movie, even if you haven’t seen it yet. It starts out with the same old animated story.. beautiful girl living in the woods, hanging out with the woodland creatures; she falls in love with a prince, but his wicked stepmother wants to kill the girl. Instead, she sends her to New York, which is where the story gets interesting. I love as each character changes from animated to real life.

Almost all of the characters were very like-able, which I liked. I loved the bright colors and the fast paced storyline (yeah, I’m very much a kid in my attention span). There was just the right amount of comedy and romance. Good stuff.

Happy (belated) Turkey Day!

November 24, 2007

I’ve really been enjoying the time off of work - resting, relaxing, doing some things around the house and spending time with my wonderful husband.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving weekend. We had a nice Thanksgiving. And I got to try out something new!

A friend at work had loaned me a copy of a magazine earlier in the year, where I saw a recipe for a turkey cheese ball that I just knew I had to make for Thanksgiving this year. And surprises of surprises - I did!

I think he (and his brother, I ended up making two) turned out pretty cute. And tasty, if I do say so myself!

6 months!

Sam and I have been married six months today. It’s crazy for me to think that it’s been six months. In a way it feels like time flew and in a way it feels like we’ve been together forever.
Being married is even better than I imagined it would be.
I’m so thankful for my husband and our love.
