Bookworm: A Good Yarn

A Good Yarn A Good Yarn by Debbie Macomber

My review

rating: 3 of 5 stars
I enjoyed this book, although I’m not sure quite why. The characters seemed very unrealistic, especially the ending. I’m not one who has to have realistic reads all the time, but the ending was so “that would never happen” that I found myself rolling eyes at points. I suppose that I really like the character of the shop owner, Lydia, and that is what will keep bringing me back to read more about the Good Yarn shop. Plus they are easy reads that don’t take too much brain power.

Little Links: BSC Revisited

July 15, 2008

I absolutely loved the Babysitters Club series when I was younger. No joke, I read all of the books, had the dolls, saw the movie on opening day, I even started my own Babysitters Club Club (I was Mary Anne of course). Yeah, I was a dork but these books really played a large role in my personal development. BSC Revisited is the rereading and rehashing of all the BSC books. It’s kind of like VH1’s “I love the 90’s” meets Babysitters Club. Good stuff. Makes me want to dig out my old books and read them for old time’s sake. (via)

I picked up this book after reading The Shop on Blossom Street, to see if I just really liked the author or just that series. It really wasn’t my type of book. While there were somewhat interesting plots, I had a really hard time keeping track of the characters and their involvement in the stories. Most of the stories reminded me of Lifetime movies and soap operas. I can handle that type of story if there’s something else keeping me involved, but this didn’t really have that for me. I don’t plan on reading the rest of this series.

vol25 Art

July 12, 2008

This post is long overdue, but I wanted to get everything hung up before I wrote.

vol25 art

I first heard about vol25 from MyWoodenRobot. I fell in love with Jessica’s art right away. Soon I added her blog to my blog reader and shortly after that I joined her new newsletter to keep up with her new work.

Jessica had a contest that you were able to enter by joining the newsletter. Of course I did, but I certainly didn’t think I’d win. When the newsletter announcing the winners (there was more than one contest) came out I noticed that the winner was “Meredith” but I thought surely it wasn’t me.

The next day I got an email saying yes, I did win! I was so excited to win, especially since the prints are so pretty. I love dandelions, so this was an added bonus! The prints, as well as the buttons, are even prettier and so vibrant in real life. I think they make a great addition to our living room and I’m looking forward to picking up some more pieces of her art as we continue making our house a home.
