Little Links: Watermelon Carving Tips and Patterns

June 3, 2008

I’m loving these watermelon carving tips from the National Watermelon Promotion Board (who knew?). Looking forward to trying some out this summer! [via Tipnut]

1st Anniversary

May 20, 2008

Yesterday Sam and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary. My lovely husband sent me some beautiful flowers at work:

From the hubby! <3

After work we went out for a nice dinner at Olive Garden (yum!) and then came home to the traditional 1st anniversary dessert:

1st Anniversary

Year old wedding cake, almost year old grape juice, and freshly baked pineapple upside down cakes!

The cake… well it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Kinda dry, but other than that it was okay. Not something I’d eat for kicks, but impressive for a year in the freezer.

We also had a bottle of grape juice that we bought at the Biltmore on our honeymoon. We hadn’t intended to keep it til our anniversary, but after we kept forgetting to drink it we decided just to save it for the special occasion. It hadn’t been opened so it was still good.

But the highlight was the freshly baked pineapple upside down cakes. That is by far my favorite type of cake. My grandmother called and asked me to stop by when I got off of work. I went over and she had just got done baking these two little cakes for us. SO good!

We both had a really great anniversary and I’m so blessed to have had Sam as my husband for the last year!

Perfect Comfort Food

It was a rainy day and this the perfect comfort food to warm me up during lunch.

And then tonight I cooked (a little) and made chicken nuggets (based on this recipe)! This doesn’t sound like a big deal, unless you know that I’m really not much of a cook (trying to learn!) and that I really am not a fan of touching raw meat. They were pretty good I think and we only ended up having three little nuggets left over, so I guess Sam thought so too!

Little Links: Eat Smart, Move More

My heath is something I’m really working to try to improve. Not a big fad diet or anything, but slowly incorporating things into my everyday life. As part of the health and wellness team at work I got sent this link to Eat Smart, Move More…North Carolina. It’s got a lot of great free resources including exercise tips and some yummy looking recipes!
