TV Tuesday: The Dog Whisperer

February 5, 2008

I watch a lot of TV. Not so much that it effects what I do in my life in an unhealthy manner, but enough that I’m pretty well-versed in the television world. I thought it might be fun to start a TV Tuesday here at Aforementioned Thoughts.

Title:The Dog Whisperer
Noteable Stars:Cesar Milan; Daddy the Pit Bull
Basic Plot:People from around the country send in videos showcasing their dogs’ misbehavior. Cesar Milan travels to their home to “rehabilitate dogs and train people.”
Where You Can Watch: The National Geographic Channel and TV-On-Demand (in some areas)

I first saw The Dog Whisperer when I was at my (then) fiance’s house. His parents had satellite and therefore had more channels than I did. I’m not sure what caught my eye, other than maybe that I had heard of the show before and wanted to see what it was all about.

We watched that first show and I loved it. The first episode was quite comical too, since that was the episode where Cesar had the dog pull him around in cart to use some excess energy. It was really great to see how calm he was with these dogs and what a change he could bring, not only to the dogs, but the people as well. It was kind of like Supernanny, for dogs.

When we moved into our own place and got local cable I didn’t think that we’d be able to watch The Dog Whisperer anymore, since our cable didn’t include The National Geographic channel. One day I was browsing around our On-Demand and found out that they had (selected) full episodes of The Dog Whisperer! So I’m still able to get my fix of Cesar and the dogs.

It is really amazing what he can do with these dogs, with only using a bit of dog psychology. I’m hoping to learn from this show when we get our first dog. Besides, learning to be calm and in control can’t hurt anything either, right?
